My Story.

Morgan Coleman is a concept artist from the provincial midwestern US city of Des Moines, Iowa whereshe started her artistic path in childhood. She spent elementary school lying to her mom about teachers assigning elaborate art projects for classes like science and English. By making models and designing experiments she aimed to apply her education to her innate urge to create. Morgan began her education in fine art at Iowa State University where she spent one year in the studio arts program before moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico to study Set/Stage Design & Sculpture at The University of New Mexico.

Her mediums include but are not limited to metal & fabric sculpture, scenic carpentry, scenic design, videography, photography and painting. Her work in physical mediums is often large scale and have representational or symbolic forms. She is inspired by the nature of humans and how humans mirror nature. Her work alchemizes these influences into displays that allow for the transformation of place, ideas and mood. Her art combines the duality of humanity, things such as death, fear, climate change, and heartbreak with joy, love, nature, courage and progress. She feels called to dissect the human condition to find metaphors, these create spaces of relatability and vulnerability. A reminder that life can be beautiful, hurtful and authentic all the same.  Her work can be thought of as experimental and often works with the notion of exploring the possibilities of other realities. There is a dream-like energy to her creations. She takes inspiration from artists like Tigre Mashaal-Lively, Lewellyn Fletcher, and Daniel Popper. Like these artists, she imposes her perspective of how things are as well as how things could be on our physical reality.

Morgan’s audience are the seekers of experience in the world. People who would rather buy a ticket than an item, people who cherish their memories over their possessions. She seeks to make people feel heard and seen in their internal world through the externalization of her mind. Not to change the world entirely, but to make the one we currently exist in less lonely, more authentic and filled with aliveness.
